Hundertwasser Update

Recent progress on site has been tremendous, thanks to the great support from suppliers and subcontractors since we came out of Level 4 Lockdown. The last of the parapet/balustrade walls to the roof have been poured. The round tower and the lift shaft in the centre are complete, and the spiral staircase that winds around the lift is being formed. Many of the 30,000 recycled bricks have been laid, and all the internal walls have been framed up with services, ready for lining. Very soon, some of the building’s shrink wrap will come down to allow us to move the scaffold and start on the paving around the building. With the roof on, it seemed only right to have a roof shout to celebrate. A fun night was had by all in early August at the Whangārei Art Museum.

We estimate that over 80% of the materials that came from the old Harbour Board building, demolished to make way for the Hundertwasser Art Centre, have or will be used in the new building, something we are very proud of.
