TRIGG Case Study: Retail Construction, Caltex
We were tasked with demolishing an existing 8-lane service station, replacing the existing structure with a new 12-lane service station within 12 weeks. The project encompassed the construction of a new full-service gas station, with a shopfront, a retail centre, a forecourt and a canopy.
The shop itself was slated to be a concrete tilt-panel construction, while inside the retail shop, we were required to construct a modern commercial kitchen for onsite food preparation and sale.
Key aspects of this build included:
Demolition of existing forecourt, lanes and retail structure
Construction of larger forecourt, larger store and commercial kitchen
Staying within the 12-week timeframe
Construction of a new canopy over 12 lanes
Containing the site and diverting and treating all run-off
Completing this project within the specified timeframe, regardless of unavoidable delays, proved to be a challenge. We managed to complete construction one week ahead of schedule regardless of these delays. The site itself was incredibly tight, being located on a busy section of State Highway 1. We needed to move underground tanks and fuel bowsers to a new location onsite, which was challenging, given the space within which we were working. The site itself needed to be completely contained, and all run-off needed to be captured and treated. We were working not only to our own safety standards and the owner’s specifications, but also to a larger set of safety procedures and regulations required by Chevron NZ Ltd.
Major challenges faced by our team included:
Relocating multiple underground storage tanks & bowsers
Containing, capturing and treating all run-off
Managing unavoidable delays to complete ahead of schedule
Erecting a solid canopy over 12 lanes
Completing all work to Chevron NZ Ltd regulatory conditions

Open for business one week ahead of schedule, with all regulatory conditions met or exceeded and all environmental concerns managed professionally, to international standards. The space itself is light and modern, and provides a welcome rest stop on your journey.
