Floating Marina
How do you construct a floating building on water that’s high on architectural detail and craftsmanship, then transport and install it 75 nautical miles North?
A modern high-spec community sports facility in the heart of Whangārei.
Working with two passionate sports codes, our goal was to create a facility that met international competition standards. With a fixed opening date and a delayed project start, the team faced a highly compressed construction programme — including an unscheduled six-week delay. Despite these challenges, Team Trigg maintained momentum, upheld quality, and delivered the facility to meet the drop-dead finish date. Located in a residential area, maintaining site harmony and community relationships was also an additional but welcome challenge.
The architecturally designed Trigg Sports Arena features a striking 500-seat grandstand with expansive canopies that float overhead. The facility houses more than 1,700 m² of training and competition space, including purpose-built foam pits and competition trampolines for elite gymnastics. The structure is finished with stack-bonded masonry throughout, reflecting both durability and craftsmanship.
The result is a modern, functional, high-performance facility — a valuable community asset that supports sport at every level. Thoughtfully designed by its architects, the Trigg Sports Arena has been skilfully positioned in what is now the heart of Whangarei’s sporting precinct. Through a partnered alliance approach, the project was delivered seamlessly, on time and on budget, with full client involvement and a shared commitment to excellence. We’re proud to lend our name as supporters and sponsors of the Arena.
