Supporting local talent

We are big fans and supporters of Kye Hiko – a local One Tree Point 13-year-old who is making a name for himself for his outstanding achievements in amateur boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Originally trained by his father Jason Kaihe from age 8, Kye now trains out of Peach Boxing in West Auckland. Kye and Jason are super committed to developing his talent and putting in the hard mahi and hours to train and compete, travelling down twice a week to train with NZ’s best, including sparring with world champion Mea Motu. Kye is a member of the 2025 NZ Boxing Team Development Squad and has had a total of 40 amateur fights.

Kye is also a multiple-time NZ Jiu-Jitsu champ. He won the NZ No Gi champs again in May and has received five golds this year. He now trains out of Bush Jitsu in Whangarei under black belt Brennan Matheson. On his off days, Kye trains boxing locally with the crew at Kings Boxing Gym, which is owned by Dad Jason. The gym at Marsden Point offers classes and personal sessions for adults, and local tamariki and rangatahi who want to learn the art of boxing. You can find out more at www.kingsboxinggym.co.nz

Kye, his Dad Jason and Mum Isla are extremely grateful for all the sponsorship, support and encouragement they have received over the years from Darrell and Marlene at Trigg, as well as Kye’s other local sponsors. Without them, much of this journey would not be possible.

Congratulations Kye, we can’t wait to see what you do next.
