Waipu Celtic Barn

A special place for the community and a legacy for generations to come.

How do you build a “Celtic Barn”, a place that honours Waipu’s heritage, celebrates its people and brings the community together to socialise, perform and connect?

Working with a passionate community group, our challenge was to turn their vision into reality while maximising value within a tight budget. We needed to navigate planning and building code requirements, balance costs, and ensure that every design and construction decision stayed true to the theme — the “Celtic Barn.”

Through Early Contractor Involvement, we partnered closely with the client from concept to completion, simplifying decisions, identifying savings, and streamlining the build process without compromising design integrity.

The Celtic-inspired design celebrates craftsmanship and community pride.

Key features include:

  • Traditional weatherboard exterior with large, welcoming verandas
  • A main hall supported by substantial handmade hardwood beams and posts
  • 7.5 tonnes of handcrafted hardwood trusses supporting the roof
  • Over 870 m² of acoustic ceiling and wall linings
  • A 450-seat main hall and 150-seat lobby for events and gatherings
  • The result is a space that feels authentic, timeless, and distinctly Waipu — an architectural nod to Celtic heritage brought to life with modern materials and local craftsmanship.

The Waipū Celtic Barn is a vibrant, multi-purpose community venue — acoustically and beautifully built for concerts, gatherings, performances, and celebrations. Early Contractor involvement ensured this project was delivered on time and within budget, and this project stands as a testament to what collaboration, trust and shared vision can achieve. A special place for the Waipu community — and a lasting asset for future generations
