Darrell was invited to speak to the Local Government Strategic Procurement Group at their recent conference held in Whangarei. The group’s members are procurement managers from every council in the country, the people responsible for procuring everything from buildings to pens! Darrell spoke to them about procurement from the other side – the contractor’s experience, and how ECI and more collaborative type procurement strategies deliver better results for the client and the community. He also challenged their thinking on procurement, and how to get better outcomes from their property investment, with strategies such as ‘think slow, act fast’. Darrell’s address was well received, and feedback since has been positive – that they appreciated the candid discussion, and it has given them food for thought about how they procure construction services.
