Marlene Muses on Hundertwasser’s Vienna

A real highlight of the recent trip Darrell and I took to Europe was to go and have a look at some of the famous Hundertwasser buildings around Vienna, Austria.

This Firey is hanging up his helmet

After 35 + years, Darrell is retiring as a volunteer operational firefighter. Darrell spent 17 years in the Kamo Brigade and the last 18.5 years out at Ruakaka, where he has been the Chief Fire Officer for the past 13 years.

A Word from Darrell

The months have flown by, and it’s that time of the year again, where for some, it’s a race to the finish line and, for others, a cruise into the break. For most, the hope is to emerge refreshed and ready to go again when the new year kicks off. Reflecting on the year, it was a mixed bag for the Trigg team.

Are skyrocketing construction costs here to stay?

Clients old and new have been asking us what’s up with skyrocketing construction costs and where we think things will head – up, down or stay much the same. Like you, we don’t have a crystal ball so we can’t see with any certainty where things will go. So, we asked Jeremy Blake, Associate Director – Quantity Surveying at Hampton Jones for his expert opinion. Here’s what he had to say.

Trigg Sports Awards

The Bream Bay Sports Awards were held in the Waipu Celtic Barn – a Trigg construction – on Friday 31 March. Ex-Bream Bay College head girl Laura Adams was the guest speaker on the night. Proud supporters and sponsors of this annual event that celebrates the success and hard work of our local sports people and teams, this is always a highlight on the Trigg social calendar.

Project Updates

Despite the challenges facing construction right now, we are busy with a range of ongoing projects and looking ahead optimistically to some exciting opportunities on the horizon.

Better, Straighter, Taller

In the spirit of the Six Million Dollar Man, “We can rebuild him: we have the technology”, on the 27 March Darrell embarked on a construction project of his own with the installation of two brand new knees, or in medical terms a Bi-lateral Total Knee Replacement! The knees were bone-on-bone for about the last four years, making it somewhat challenging to get around.

Building in Challenging Times

We’ve all heard, and many of us are feeling the effects of the slowing economy and The Reserve Bank’s efforts to curb inflation. Recent predictions are that we will remain in a ‘recession’ until the end of 2024, with some predicting inflation won’t get below 3% until then, or even early 2025. From an industry perspective, things are still tough.

Meet the Team: Aidan Jones

Aidan joined the team at Trigg last year as a Quantity Surveyor working alongside David Pook, bringing more than two decades of experience working as a builder and quantity surveyor in construction, and a refinery operator in the oil and gas industry.

Project Updates

Team Trigg is busy with a great bunch of projects, and future project planning is also showing no sign of slowing down. The Ruakaka Rec Centre is all go now consent has been issued, our Dent St office refurb is racing ahead to plan, and the pontoons for our floating marina office project are in the water. We’re also excited to be making progress with our Anchorage Retirement Village facilities and what will be the new Mangawhai Medical Centre.
